Life Lessons From A Nursery Rhyme

Last night I was blessed to meet a some great leaders in the industry of MLM – Kody Bateman, Jordon Adler and David Frey.

Kody told us how life lessons can be learned from nursery rhymes and used “Itsy Bitsy Spider” as an example. You know the rhyme…

Itsy bitsy spider
Climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And itsy bitsy spider
Climbed the spout again!

The lesson learned from this nursery rhyme is that that spider did not give up.  Think about it… what does a spider do when it gets wet?  It rolls up into a ball doesn’t it? So, when the rain came, the spider just curled up into a ball and allowed himself to be washed out of the spout.  And then he waited.

He knew that the sun would come out eventually, and when it did, he uncurled himself, dried off and set back to the task of climbing the spout again.

You know, stuff is going to happen to us during our life and we need to accept that it will.  Things can change in a moment.  I was recently made redundant from a job I loved – one moment I had work and the next I didn’t (and that sucked!).  Like the spider, I rode the wave for a while until it ran out of steam and waited for the sun to come out – which it did.  I’m now climbing a new spout, learning a new job and loving this one even more!!

Stuff happens – and life is not about how much stuff has happened to you, but how you react to and recover from it. Don’t let all this ’stuff’ get in the way of your dreams.  It’s a smoke screen, designed to make you believe that you cannot or are not meant to realise your dreams.

You dream your dreams for a purpose – to work towards them and “nail ‘em!”  When you’ve realised the dreams you currently have, new ones will take their place.

I once read an interview with an MLM leader who said “life begins at the edge of your comfort zone”. So work your way to the edge and begin your life!
