The Meaning Of Life…

For anyone who is familiar with  “The Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy”, you will be aware of the search for the meaning of life.  If I remember correctly, a huge computer was uploaded with a myriad of information which it had to sort and analyse – a process that took many years.  At the appointed time, the computer came up with the answer to the question “what is the meaning of life?”, which was 42 – an answer that was no help at all!

Relationships… yes, relationships are the meaning of life.

From Genesis to Revelation, the theme of the Bible is about relationships and mainly about our relationship with our Maker.

Right from the beginning of the Bible God has wanted to have a meaningful with man and for man to have meaningful relationships with fellow men.  Why else would God declare that “it is not good that man should be alone” and make “him a helper comparable to him”?

Ever since the time the serpent deceived Eve, who in turn influenced Adam, God has fought for His relationship with mankind.  He has never given up on us.  Time after time He has reached out towards us for fellowship and time after time He has been rejected.

He raised people up and He knocked some others down, but somehow we have just not realised that all God wants of us is a loving relationship.  He craved this so much that He sent His only Son to die for us.  And still some of us don’t get it.

As part of His ministry, Jesus said ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Luke 10:27).

Can you see here that the most important relationship that any man can have is the one with his Maker? It is on this one that we should spend most time and energy, without forgetting to love everybody else.  The enemy has done a good job of distracting us by business and entertainment.  I can almost feel God’s despair when He looks at what life on earth has become, knowing that He could ‘fix it’ if only we would all turn to Him and love one another.

We could start to make a difference – by learning to love everyone – one person at a time. My suggestion would be however, to do this while you are learning to love God – don’t leave Him out of the process because He will give you the strength and grace to follow through.

God bless.
